QUESTION OF THE DAY:

Find the number of numbers which are less than 48 and co-prime to it . 

(a) 16 
(b) 12 
(c) 18
(d) 10
(e) 14


48 = 2^4 × 3^1
 
So, the number of co primes = 48* (1-1/2)* (1-1/3)
= 16.

          Rana Sangha was awarded for each wound inflicted upon him in a battle. For the first wound he was awarded 1 gold mohur, for the second 2, for the third 4, for the fourth 8, and so on. Its received in total 65,535 gold mohurs. Find the number of wounds he braved?
         a)      14                                                 
         b)      15                                               
         c)      18
         d)      13                                                 
         e)      16


2^(n) -1= 65535. So 2^(n)= 65536= 2^16. So n=16.

At 8.00 am there are 8 persons waiting is a queue outside a ration shop. 4 persons join one minute later. The number of persons joining the queue per minute increases at a rate of two persons per minute. The shop opens at 8 : 20 am and distributes the ration which is available for 300 persons only. How many persons will have to return empty–handed if no person arrived after 8.20 am?
